CHAOS Mission: Arland Assault

On September 7, 2024, CHAOS (formerly the “MG Arma 3 Team”) embarked on a mission in Arma Reforger. It’s been a VERY long time since we’ve ran missions, but WE’RE BACK BABY! While this session was not recorded or streamed, we intend to publish mission summaries for this, and all future missions, here on our web site.

Mission Type:
Arma Reforger, Game Master, Arland, (Non-Story Mission)

Summary:
After receiving credible intel indicating USSR Forces have amassed a large amount of transport and assault aircraft on the island, the team travels to Arland to recon and eliminate the threat.

Mission Debrief:
CHAOS was dispatched to Arland Island on a search and destroy mission for Soviet assets at Arland Airport.

Objectives:

  1. Destroy radio relay
  2. Ambush resupply depot
  3. Destroy main island radio communication antenna array
  4. Eliminate transport and assault aircraft at Arland Airport

After some struggle with the radio relay, the team regrouped and headed northwest flanking around the 2nd and 3rd objectives to approach them from the north. The team made quick work of a set of three Soviet QRF units and smaller patrols. The initial attack on the antenna array went smoothly, but a large Soviet defense force wasn’t far behind, causing the team to initially withdraw and reengage. Upon arriving at the airport, the team was met with heavy resistance including multiple infantry, and two APCs. The team was able to disable the crew of one of the APCs, take command of it, and thin out the enemy forces. However, the Soviets pushed back and the team was forced to fall back. The team moved to the north-northeast of the airport while the enemy forces were still launching volleys of suppressive fire to the east and southeast. The team was able to eliminate the enemy assets and exfiltrate before the Soviets could respond.

The mission was a SUCCESS.

Game Notes:

  1. AI can’t fly at this point in Reforger’s development.
  2. Game Master had no ears on Reforger’s VON or radio system. However, an addon was found that claims to provide this functionality. Funar will test.
  3. @Ikaris98 & @Luzahan reported the game felt very smooth – moreso than Arma 3. Funar agreed.
  4. @Funar witnessed spikes of packet loss from the server according to server stats. It’s possible the loss was only being reported by Reforger, and not actual loss. Will continue to test.
  5. @Funar prefers Arma 3’s Zeus/Eden interface to that of Reforger’s Game Master mode.
  6. Ran some experiments post-session with Reforger’s supply system. Definitely something to experiment with for future sessions.
